After Disney was forced to shut its doors to customers looking to visit any and all of its theme parks, it was only a matter of time before the company’s employees would begin to feel the pinch of the decision.
In a recent statement the ‘Service Trades Council Union,’ which represents Disney World employees, disclosed that 43,000 employees would be laid off due to the suspension of operations. The worker’s union went on to share that the lay-offs would begin taking effect on April 19.
Disney will however continue to provide its employees who are insured with medical, dental and life insurance benefits for up to a year. Furthermore, employees being laid-off will be able to register for unemployment benefits in Florida immediately.
Only 200 workers with roles that have been identified as essential by Disney will remain.
