06 March 2020

At only 11 years of age Hend Zaza will become the youngest ever competitor in the history of the Olympic Games.

The young Syrian competitor secured her qualification to the Olympic Games after she defeated Lebanon’s Mariana Sahakian.

The outing between the two in the final of the West Asia Table Tennis Olympic qualification tournament in Jordan last week ended in a 4-3 victory for Zaza.

After Zaza’s victory the Syrian Olympic Committee shared a post congratulating their young prodigy via Facebook.

“Congratulations, our champion Hend to the Tokyo Olympics 2020.”

The Olympic women’s singles table tennis tournament is scheduled to begin with the preliminary rounds on July 25, with the final to take place on July 30.
